The rainbow flag is used to show that all of us, all kinds, all colors, all genders, all sexual preferences, gay, lesbian, transgender — are united — and together we are all a beautiful rainbow, each unique color blending to form the unified whole. The rainbow has been used as a symbol of diversity for a long time. It was chosen by gay rights activists as a symbol reflecting the diversity within the movement in 1978. The San Francisco community fell in love with the flag and adopted it as an official symbol for the 1979 Pride Parade, and it has been a symbol for gay rights ever since.
The various colors came to reflect both the immense diversity and the unity of the LGBTQ community. The rainbow flag was truly established as the symbol for the LGBTQ pride. The year that Baker made a mile-long version for the 25th anniversary of the Stonewall riots. The LGBT pride version of the flag designed by Gilbert Baker has become the most famous of the rainbow flags. It is now one of the most recognized symbols in the world.
