  1. If they had sufficient work history before going to prison, there could be a small Social Security payment for them in a few cases. For the most part, however, they must find a way to earn income. Few could be left homeless or they would violate parole and be returned to prison. It’s a huge problem for most older ex-inmates.

  2. They do not get a pension, no matter how many years they were in prison. They were in prison, not working at a job. Depending on the state, prisoners get $100-$200 upon release. If they are old enough for Social Security, they can apply. However, I’d be surprised if they even qualified. If they did, it wouldn’t be much at all. More than likely, they will have to rely on family, or non-profit organizations for help when they get out of prison.
