Can I put my role at my family’s business as a work experience in my CV?

I was a manager at my parent’s farm for almost three years and I’m sure I did excellently well. Can I put this in my CV?

  1. It doesn’t really matter if it was family run business or not. Recruiters or hiring managers won’t care. What they will definitely care about and what you should focus on is: What responsibilities you took. Given that it was family business you did more than what would be required from any other employee – it’s a big win for you. List all of those activities and responsibilities on the high level and see which one’s are most relevant to the specific job application – then use those. There’s no point of listing all of it, as some might be too minuscule or irrelevant to the position you’re applying to.

  2. You definitely should include it in your CV. I don’t think this is a problem at all, real world experience always counts. Business is never Family. Business decisions are real and hard. Except if you were there without any skills, then you better not talk about it or include it in your CV.
