I’ve caught my 14year old daughter watching the series “13 reasons why” and I told her never to watch it again. I tried explaining to her how inappropriate the movie is. Guess who was watching it secretly again? My daughter. What do I do?

It really depends on how mature your daughter is. The language is nothing to worry about. I can almost guarantee you that your daughter hears worse at school every day. I don’t know if you were worried about this but if you were, don’t be. Yeahhhh, the rape and suicide scenes are pretty disturbing. There’s no nudity except for male buttocks but the scenes can still be hard to watch. The suicide scene clearly shows Hannah cutting herself with razors. However, there is a warning before each episode that contains graphic material. Finally, there’s the issue of glorifying suicide. Personally, I didn’t feel like that was the case when I was watching the show. After reading what other people thought about this show, I can see how it may be interpreted as suicide glorification. Hannah does appear to become empowered because of her suicide but if your child is mature enough, they may be able to see through that. The idea of blaming other people for Hannah’s suicide is also something that your child may or may not see through.
If you’re worried about the teenage drinking, drug use, and partying, then don’t worry about it. This stuff is pretty common at most schools.
I’ve watched the entire first season like three times and most of the second season, and nowhere does it tell you that you should kill yourself. In the intro to the second season there’s a suicide warning and it gives the number to a suicide hotline.
Also just about everything that happens in the show happens in the real world. There’s no point in sheltering your daughter from it. She will be exposed to that stuff eventually.. And chances are if she really wanted to watch it she will find a way to I’m sure she has friends who watch it. If you’re really that worried about it, watch it with her. She probably won’t like that idea but that might make you feel better about letting her watch it.
