I find it really disturbing some moms eat placenta, still trying to wrap my head around it.

We have grown to be a strong community of natural birth, waterbirths, midwife assisted, and natural doctors. Most women giving birth assisted by a team of midwives, generally have the placenta dried and capsulated. It encourages a rich milk supply, since it also was unborn baby’s first source of nourishment. The nutrients are anti-depressive, so it subsequentialy helps relieve post partum depression.
There’s some evidence that consuming the placenta after a birth helps even out post birth hormones and can ease or even alleviate postpartum depression. I don’t see a downside to doing this other than maybe the taste.
