Why do some moms eat their baby’s placenta?

I find it really disturbing some moms eat placenta, still trying to wrap my head around it.

  1. There’s some evidence that consuming the placenta after a birth helps even out post birth hormones and can ease or even alleviate postpartum depression. I don’t see a downside to doing this other than maybe the taste.
