I often see blood and even sat through an operation awake, why do others feel weird at the sight of their own blood?
When you faint at the sight of blood, you’re experiencing vasovagal syncope, which makes your heart rate and blood pressure decrease drastically. When your blood pressure drops so suddenly, the lessened blood flow to your brain causes you to faint.
The most likely reason you felt sick to your stomach when you had your blood drawn is that your body was having a vasovagal reaction. This is a physical response from your nervous system. It can be triggered by seeing the needle, seeing your own blood, or just feeling anxious about the whole thing.
