I don’t drive, but I’ve intently studied those who. And the most common thing is how drivers tend to tune down the volume of the stereo when trying to find a space to park the car. Why is this?

Why do drivers tune down the volume of music or radio when trying to find a parking space?

I guess it’s just an impulse thing, it helps concentrate. The radio or music at that moment is a distraction, and by the nature of man, we cannot concentrate on two different things at the same time and at the same pace. So, why not keep one on the low and focus on one?
It’s simply distracting. Loud sounds are hard to ignore, especially music or speech that is really engaging. Your brain wants to process it, and it’s hard to block out. You can’t focus on too many things at once—there’s a central limitation on what we can process. There’s actually a correlation between sound and sight. Turning the volume down allows you to focus better. It helps you focus on the task instead of the music.
