Why do dogs eat placenta?

I recently saw a video where a dog was giving birth, and while at it, she was eating the placenta. It was so eeeww,  cos why would she be eating the placenta raw like that?

There are also lots of hormones and some people think that ingesting the placenta gives a hormonal signal to the body that the birth is over and its time to close off the blood vessels to stop the bleeding. Also, in the wild, having a lot of blood around you is a good way to attract predators. Consuming it gets rid of that problem.

The hormones that come with eating placenta also help the uterus to contract, speeding up the birth of the remaining puppies. It helps the dog’s uterus get back in shape. Then the nutrients, eating the placenta provides the dog mom necessary nutrients needed after birth.
