There really should be male contraceptives, in fact, contraceptives ought to be for males. Why are there no male contraceptives?
Men don’t get pregnant so it has never been a priority and the market for it is considered somewhat soft. How many men are willing to put up with any side effects for the benefit?
The hormone system is more complex partly because sperm are produced from puberty to death – not just once a month and can you interfere with those hormones without affecting libido? It is also a ‘long’ process with millions of sperm in the pipeline. Ask a guy with a vasectomy how long he had to wait before he was ‘safe’
In retrospect, it is fairly easy to prevent a woman from making eggs with birth control pills. There is no known way to prevent men from making sperm. Incidentally, the man who invented birth control pills was a practicing Catholic and so, had reasons not to do so. He believed in science and what was good for humanity.
