People like contracting younger IT guys when they have IT related works to do, it’s the belief of many people that as IT guys grow older, their IT knowledge decreases.

I beg to disagree, most of the time companies don’t employ 35 and above individuals simply because they’re considered to have great experience and these companies may not be able to afford them— call that being overqualified. These companies prefer to go for the younger ones who seem to just started out their career in tech, these ones are always so eager to get into any available tech company just to get themselves out there. And since they can do what the older folks can do, the companies simply go for them.
It depends on company, all the companies do not do the same thing. If you are good with your experience and your work then they will definitely hire you, but there may be low salary as per your expectations. I have a cousin who got a permanent employment with a top It company in Oklahoma. It was his first permanent job, and he got it at 42.
