Which one would you encourage for me to buy?
I think it depends a lot on how you work most productively. Some people focus best when they are able to change location frequently and re-arrange their position whenever they need to. For this kind of person, a desktop would probably feel like a prison. They’d never be able to get comfortable and focus on their work. They’d probably be taking frequent breaks and their work might slow to a crawl.
Other people work best in one spot. It helps them most to designate one location for work and only work. Personally, I’ve found that, although I enjoy being able to work on my couch, bed, floor, etc, I’m much more productive when working at a desk with a large monitor in front of me. Having a large screen means I’m able to keep all the information I need visible at all times.
If you want something portable, that you can take to class or to meetings to take notes or to feed your presentation to a projector, then you obviously don’t want to lug around a desktop. Speaking of lugging, there are some laptops with gigantic screens which can be a pleasure to look at, but when you are carrying one of those enormous laptops between gates at a large airport, you may come to regret that luxury. For most people, carrying weight matters. Runtime on a fully charged battery also matters a lot. A typical desktop has many possibilities for customization and expansion. If you want a more powerful graphics card, for instance, if your PC’s case has appropriate power and cooling capacity, you can probably fit a powerful graphics card right in there.
