A local Nigerian man reportedly caught a huge blue marlin fish and ate it with the whole village without knowing the worth of the fish. The first time I read or heard anything about such a fish was in the novel “old man and the sea”.

No fish in the world is worth anything close to that quoted amount ($2.6 million). That amount was prize money won by a group that caught the largest fish (a white marlin), in a yearly angling competition. Ordinarily, the marlin is worthless because it’s not even fit for human consumption in the first place. The Blue Marlin that he caught has value only in the fishing or angling competition. It’s worth nothing more than the fish value outside competition.
Blue Marlin Fish is worth $2.6 million, it is not often eaten by humans due to unhealthy amounts of mercury and other contaminants found in it.
