How do you answer a question that asks how much you want to be paid at a job?
I don’t believe the person applying for a position should be forced to give the salary range they desire without ever hearing a number from the other party. It is true that if you avoid talking numbers and end up getting the offer, the offer may turn out to be a waste of time.
Interviewers are reluctant to give a number first though, because it weakens their bargaining position.
This could all be avoided, if employers were forthcoming and non-secretive about their salary ranges to begin with. The only reason they continue to do this is because they are getting away with it. If everyone on the planet said “I can’t continue with the interview process without knowing the salary range allotted for this position”, employers would have to start ponying up the numbers.
This is a very tricky question, and you should be careful while answering such question. This type of question is asked just to check your mental psychology whether you are willing to work for the company or you are more inclined towards the pay package. If they have already announced the range before then, I think you would have decided whether you are willing to work for the company or not. If they ask it again during interview, then they just want to confirm if you are really interested or not. So what I think is the best thing is to say that I am happy with the pay package already announced by you and what really fascinates me is the job profile you offered. This will give a positive impact that you really are interested in the profile as well as the company.
