Throughout my childhood I saw domestic violence, intense arguments and what not; mom and dad were both crackheads. Myself and my siblings grew up in that environment and eventually started to accept our lives. I somehow retained my sanity but the side effects are – anxiety, depression all of a sudden, always thinking mode. My advice to you is move out, because all this argument and everything will fry your brains and will make you feel miserable later in life.

The secret I’ve found to stopping myself from hyperventilating while doing that is to stop breathing in and out for just a second more than what’s comfortable, and then take a small breath in. It feels like you need more oxygen for a few seconds all said and done, but it balances itself out pretty quickly and you start breathing normally again.

There are a lot of things you can do, but in my experience of having anxiety and treating people who have it, the first step is to be okay with the fact that you have anxiety. To realize that that fear and uncertainty you are experiencing are natural responses to the chaos of life. I find that people who judge their anxiety, or think they shouldn’t have it, tend to only increase their anxious and depressed feelings. It’s totally okay to feel anxious.
