Sleeping immediately after eating is not inherently bad. It becomes bad and harmful if your kind of body doesn’t allow it. I can sleep after eating a big meal and I’ll be fine, but some people dare not try it. Sleeping immediately after eating can cause heartburn for some people, some indigestion, some can get even bloated. So it all depends on your body system.
Nothing happens, except if you wake up with a bloated stomach. It’s not sleep in particular that’ll affect your digestion, it’s lying down. Your body uses gravity to hold food in your stomach while your stomach produces acid to digest the food you just ate. When you lay down, gravity isn’t holding the acid and the food at the bottom of your stomach anymore, the acid and food can spread out and creep back up your esophagus. This can have short term effects like acid reflux . That is why it is often advised to stay at least 1hr after eating before you lie down.
