Thrush or candidiasis is due to a fungus, Candida albicans, that is commonly present on our skin and in our mouth. In an infant’s skin areas which stay moist it’s the causative agent for diaper rash. It also causes jock itch and athlete’s foot. When an individual is given a series of one or more antibiotics which kill off the normal skin snd oral cavity bacteria, then this opportunistic fungus grows and irritates the skin and mouth tissues causing thrush.
Thrush is a fungal infection caused by Candida albicans. The people who get this have a depressed immune system, usually from cancer or some other serious illness. Candida is a normal organism in the mouth of humans, but these illnesses result in its overgrowth. Thrush can also occur when normal mouth flora which keep the Candida in check are killed off with antibiotics.
