You don’t know what they’re thinking but you should have a good feel ahead of time. I wouldnt go without having had conversations with them. If you have mutual friend start there to find out more about them. If it’s online meeting, good idea to understand ahead where they work, family ties, etc so you know they have anchor in the community. All advise says meet at first in public place and use your creeper judgment. Or meet where it’s group activity like sailing or bowling, dancing.
Even if you’re scoping someone with the intention of having a casual fling with them, don’t invite them over on the first date itself. Giving them access to your home makes you vulnerable because it reveals a lot of your personal information in a very short span of time. Meet at a restaurant you frequent, where the staff knows you. So that if things go south, you can reach out to them for help. Also, let someone know about your movement, it could be anyone, your friend your family, just let someone know. Always be alert. Observe what’s happening around you and always keep an eye on your food and drink. Don’t ever leave it unattended.
