By far the most important is: mistaking brand identity (logo, visuals etc.) for brand positioning. Brand positioning is the fundamental and powerful idea of choosing how to make an emotional connection with customers. It is rooted in understanding conscious and non-conscious psychological patterns and choosing which ones you want your brand to own. Every successful brand does this.
Here are some other common mistakes:
– lacking a budget that respects the challenge before you
– lacking a CEO with vision
– not understanding your audiences
– lacking authenticity and differentiation
– building your brand in a vacuum
– developing the brand too quickly
– thinking the logo is everything
– not having a clear and simple concept
– build for today instead of tomorrow
– crowdsourcing your name / logo / creative
– not having a distribution or governance model in place
– poor rollout
Wearing your bra a few times before washing it is not as gross as you might think. In fact, washing your bra too often is harmful to the fabric and structure. The same goes for denim and other fabrics that are too delicate for the washing machine. Washing after every wear is a great rule of thumb for everyday t-shirts and workout clothes, but it doesn’t apply to your whole wardrobe. It can be tricky to decide how often to wash certain clothes, and opinions may differ depending who you ask.
