What are those laws every man should try to live by as they go about their daily life?
A man always stands up straight and looks everyone in the eye with a smile. He always displays confidence and never loses faith in himself, even when he sometimes fails. A man never allows his temper to obscure his vision or interfere with striving to achieve his good goals.
A Man is decisive, takes action and accepts responsibility for his actions and their consequences. He doesn’t blame, even himself, or rationalize or excuse. He is big enough to apologize for his mistakes and make restitution and respects himself enough to not apologize if he isn’t in the wrong, even is others want him to or think he should. He faces the world as it is and works to improve his position and the position of those for whom he responsible for and to whom he is accountable.
A Man displays integrity. Integrity isn’t necessarily honesty though it often includes honesty. Integrity is consistency of behavior such that people come to know and trust him. Trustworthiness stems from integrity.
A man treats all people with respect regardless of position, including those who cannot help him in any way. He is kind to people above and below him on the social or employment ladder. He is honest in his dealings, no matter how trivial. He’s not afraid to say no to things he doesn’t like or want and has the courage to say yes to new things, experiences and people. He never stops learning.
A Man always maintains his dignity. He may sometimes have to surrender to circumstance, but he never surrenders his dignity and it cannot be taken from him unless he does. He doesn’t care what others think about his choices, clothing, actions or behaviors. He seeks to maximize his own happiness and the happiness of those for whom he cares without regard for the judgement of others.
A Man treats women with honesty, directness and respect. He doesn’t walk behind her or in front of her – he walks beside her in everything they do. When he is with his partner he always has a plan for their mutual enjoyment and pleasure, no matter what they are doing. He listens to her and includes her wants, needs, hopes and desires into his calculations and plans.
I’ll write out the simple one I live by, I’m sure others have theirs too.
As a man, you should be able to hold up your side of a conversation in multiple topics. If you have an obsession, be it a sport, movies, a TV show, model trains, anything at all; that does not mean that there’s nothing else going on in the world. Know a little bit about everything; politics, what’s going on in the world, science, geography, culture, etc.
Always look after your appearance. This does not mean that you need to be dressed in the latest trends and follow the movements of the fashion industry (unless you’re into it), but there are some standards that I think must be followed. Be clean and showered always, wash your teeth, don’t let you fingernails become long and dirty. Iron you clothes, clean your shoes, make sure you buy clothes that actually fit you. If you wear a beard of any length, make it at least appear intentional. Have the right clothes for the right occasion.
Respect people and their opinions, even if you don’t agree with them. Let people speak, don’t interrupt them. Don’t skip the queue, look people in the eye, don’t be late to anything. Be respectful of other cultures when you travel.
