A wedding registry is often a curated list of gift items the couples want from their guests. What do you think about the idea behind it?
It’s pretty normal, I see it as a tradition to give gifts to new wives as they are starting a brand new phase of their life. I love the idea of wedding registries because it helps make sure that the couple receives things they actually need. I consider registries as courtesies to help your guests choose gifts and help them not feel like shit when the couple opens their gift and start seeing 6 same items from different persons.
Registries were invented so newlyweds didn’t end up with 18 identical toasters. I think they’re great in that aspect. I think it’s even better when my friends who already have been living together for years have people donate to a cause instead. The wedding registry isn’t a compulsory summons that must be obeyed, and anyone who treats it like one is being boorish. The registry is there to give people ideas, for those who would like them, without having to call the couple directly to ask what they need.
