  1. Jesus can be said to be related to John the baptism, infact, we could use the term “distance cousin” to describe the relationship. Before Jesus was conceived, Elizabeth had taken in with John and Mary went to he when he received the message from the angel that appeared to her. Mary immediately went to see her cousin Elizabeth to tell her. John was before Jesus, but due to the relation between the mother of John and mother of Jesus, Jesus and John can be said to be relatives.

  2. The Bible didn’t specify the kin of relationship they had. They have been called cousins because their mothers were related but the accepted cannon never specifies how they were related. Mary and Elizabeth might have been sisters or they may have been cousins themselves. Or even sisters in law. Zechariah could be Marys brother. We are never clearly told. All that was important to God purpose was His selection of John to go before Jesus and prepare the way for his ministry. By the time Jesus began his ministry at age 30 he already had people eager to follow and know him because of John’s efforts.
