I couldn’t agree more. To some people family are the people who always have your back and support you. For some people family consisr of the people you can treat as shitty as you want and expect them to still come back to you. I hate the “blood is thicker than water” sentiment. If your family is toxic than you don’t owe them anymore than you would a friend of a stranger. It is the family you choose that matters most, cut shitty people out of your life even if those shitty people have the same genes.
Depends what you mean by toxic. If you’re talking about abusive parents who are unsafe to be around definitely stay away from them. But if you’re just talking about family that you’ve had arguments with or just don’t see eye to eye on certain matters you shouldn’t cut them off, just keep them at a distance.
