Slow parenting is a parenting style where parents consciously choose to take the pressure off their children and let them explore their world on their own terms. It allows for everyone to be present and focus on family time without a calendar full of scheduled activities. When parents allow children the space for trial and error, children become adept at solving problems independently. These children rely on their internal resources to creatively find solutions. They do not expect or anticipate an adult ‘swooping in’ to rescue them.

When i think of my childhood experiences, I realised the kind of parenting style my parents used was slow-parenting, while it may seem as if you are giving your child too much freedom and space, the freedom and space is actually infused with discipline. This parenting style allows kids to learn things at their own pace, while as a parent you supervise the activities but not hand hold them. Kids can be independent, carry out tasks on their own and learn from their mistakes.
Slow parenting advocates lesser scheduled activities and more time with nature and self.
Time to self is not just involved in ‘doing something’ or scheduling an activity for your child but letting them tap their creative side to figure out something that they can do at the moment with the available stuff. It allows kids to understand the kind of activity they like doing and to what extent than just pushing them to do everything available.
