Unless you are using water googles, it is too risky to swim with them on. As someone that uses contact lenses, I wouldn’t recommend you to do it. Contact lenses are not glued to your eyes. If you open your eyes while underwater, the water will detach them from your eyes and it will be nigh impossible to find them again. When something gets in your eye, one method to get it out is to open your eyes in the water, so it will come off. Contact lenses are no different.
The water may contain many unseen threats to your eyes. Your contact lenses might trap some of these microorganisms, resulting in harmful after effects. Even in chlorinated water, dangerous bacteria and other organisms can thrive. If you open your eyes underwater while wearing contacts, these can squeeze behind your lenses and infect your eye. Keep water out of your eyes and off your lenses by wearing goggles. These can be the small goggles that have separate pieces for each eye or the larger style that has one big viewing area. Make sure the goggles fit tight enough to keep out all water before jumping in.
