I find it quite easy to self-publish. I’m experienced in doing book production, I have run a small advertising firm so I know marketing, I’ve worked with artists and book designers, and I once cofounded a publishing company. All that means I have a set of skills most self-published authors don’t. I find it easy. That doesn’t mean it is easy; only that I have an unusual set of skills useful to self-publishing.
Yes and no. I’m not done with my first self publishing, and I’m not going to judge how well it worked out until I’m a few more books in. On the down side, I haven’t made a great deal of money, but I have had the great joy of having people whom I have never met say that they really enjoy what I wrote. Making that connection with someone I don’t know is kind of an amazing feeling. Still, I really wouldn’t mind selling enough copies of my book to have a meaningful income.
