My coworker always says I put too much effort into delivering my job functions.

Why does my coworker always say I put  too much (unnecessary) efforts into our job tasks? He makes me feel I’m overworking whereas I’m just doing what’s expected of me.

Do your job as it is expected of you and do it as best you can. If you are rewarded for giving your all, then keep giving your all. If you are taken advantage of and never appreciated, then think about another job or doing what must be done vs. what could be done. It is up to you in relation to your hoped for rewards.

I think it’s mostly common for older employees to tell newly recruited employees this at workplace. Some may be right for telling you to cut the efforts you put into the job simply because they’ve been there before you, and it’s possible some are just saying that out of being spiteful. Name one employer that has your best interest in mind. They don’t, and they never will. They are not loyal to you in anyway, and will be quick to fire or lay you off for any reason. I’m just reminding you to be wary of putting too much stake in your employer.
