Muscle pills happen when you load a muscle more than it’s capacity. Common causes include the following;
– Improper body mechanics, such as lifting with your back instead of your legs. This can result in a pulled muscle in the back.
– Improperly fitting shoes and other sporting equipment.
– Lack of diversity in activities, such as always doing the same exercises in the same way.
– Poor posture, which stresses muscles that normally do not support posture.
– Poor sports technique, such as habitually gripping a golf club or tennis racket too tightly.
Your muscle can be divided into different muscle fibers, which in turn consist of so called fascicles. Fatigue or overuse can cause some of these fascicles or even whole muscle fibers to overstretch or tear. This will lead to swelling and therefore put stress on the surrounding tissue, which can be painful. At small scale this is tipically known as a strained muscle, at a larger scale as a pulled muscle.
