What is the whole essence of microchipping animals like dogs, cats etc?
I think that it is a good idea to microchip, just remember to update your information on a microchip database. To better explain, each microchip is assigned an ID number which is displayed when the microchip is read by a special machine. A person then can look up the ID number to find out information like the pet’s name, age, heath issues, owner’s phone number and address. But this information may be incorrect if you don’t update it. A shocking number of people forget to do this.
Unlike tags and collars which can be removed there is no way of losing or thieves doctoring a microchip ID. No data other than the unique reference number is stored on the chip itself, and this refers to an entry on a database that is managed and secured by the microchip provider. Only authorized parties have access to this information, such as veterinary offices and animal shelters. There’s a small risk of inflammation around the insertion site; and a very small risk of this causing cancer. One of my dogs has been micro-chipped twice.
