Yes, tennis does require a lot of work and skill set that is to be built with practice and dedication, it is more than just swinging a bat and hitting a tennis ball, you can get lucky, yes, some people have the co-ordination required to play effortlessly, but you have to learn to actually know what you are doing.
hmm the answer to this question varies, if played just for fun, with friends, then it can just be a fun sport, friends swinging a bat to and fro, but when asking this question, you seem to potray that your friends are pros? if you want to stand a chance against professional tennis ball players then yes, getting some form of training will be a good idea and yes, it might be hard.
