Swinging, also known as open relationship is when partners get involved with others sexually without the other party getting annoyed. Can this be done in marriage too?
The people I know who have had positive experiences with swinging tend to have certain things in common:
– they are secure in themselves and their relationships.
– they have good self-esteem.
– they have good communication, and can talk openly with each other about anything including about sex without fear or shame.
– they are not possessive, controlling, or sexually insecure.
– they are flexible and resilient.
– they understand that feelings aren’t fact; it’s possible to feel unexpected, surprising, or uncomfortable emotions without acting out, freaking out, or assuming that someone is doing something wrong.
– they have integrity and value honesty and transparency in their relationship.
It depends on your reasons for thinking about the Swing lifestyle. If you and your spouse have some deep seeded issues with trust or infidelity, than swinging can make your marriage worse. If you and your spouse have a strong and loving relationship but have lost a little spark in the bedroom, than it can improve your marriage. Swinging is about trust and cheating is based on lies. You and your spouse will need to discuss the different limits or levels of swinging you would like to participate in. What’s great about the lifestyle is that there is no obligation to do anything you don’t want to. We have friends that like to show up and watch to be a part of the sexually charged atmosphere. This is all they need to get their spark. We also have friends who like to have sex in front of others but never play with anybody else and this is perfectly fine with everybody.
