The danger lies entirely in the other persons cleaning skills. You should, as you know if you maintain them well, give your toys a reoccurring sterilization now and then to make sure that they are okay to shove in there again. What is happening now is that you don’t really know if the other person is thorough enough, so you can’t really trust them. It is important to make absolutely sure that (s)he knows how to clean to meet your standards.
Sex toys used between partners within the same sexual encounter have the potential for transmitting HPV. Cleaning the sex toy has the potential to decrease the amount of HPV DNA we can detect and so can potentially decrease the risk of transmission. If they aren’t cleaned properly it is just the same as having unprotected sex with whoever used them.
