Are poultry eggs with double yolks normal? As opposed to having just one yolk.
It means two egg yolks got enclosed in one shell. It’s not at all a rare occurrence. We used to be delighted to get them like that. Unfortunately, most hatcheries cull them out and either throw them away save them for their own families to eat. They do not usually make viable chicks as the size and contents of the double yolk does not support the hatching of two chicks. It just doesn’t do well.
It doesn’t mean anything. The hen has just popped out two yolks from her ovaries at the same time and they both got caught in the same egg making process. If both yolks in the egg had been fertilised by a rooster, beforehand, and if it had been incubated, two chicks might have been the result.
