How true is the speculation that it is very hard for black people to get good jobs in the USA?

If they are willing to work, there are probably more jobs available simply because unemployment in US is lower. Once they have a job, its up to them to provide value to the employer so they are seen as creating profit for the employer rather than just being a liability. USA is an “at will” state and the employer can fire someone and need not give a reason. That means the employee is easier to get rid of if they are causing problems. Employees that are not causing problems tend to keep their jobs, regardless of skin color. Employees that are causing problems lose their jobs.
It’s actually easier for a black American to get a job in many places than it is for an equally skilled white American. This is due to affirmative action and the desire by many large companies to increase their diversity. But you should look into the job market for the major you’re interested in and see what the demand is. It wouldn’t make sense to go to college at 24 for career purposes and then major in liberal arts. Their are other options outside of that, that have good career options.
