My husband often refer to Heineken as a German beer, I don’t think it is though. But I’d like to know if it really is.

My husband often refer to Heineken as a German beer, I don’t think it is though. But I’d like to know if it really is.
Heineken was founded in 1864 by Gerard Adriaan Heineken. It moved production from Amsterdam to Zoeterwoude, in South Holland, in 1975. As such, Heineken is Dutch and its subsidiaries are Mexican, Jamaican, Haitian, Italian, English, Irish, Belgian, American, and, as of recently, Ecuadorian.
Although it was originally Dutch, and is still brewed in the Netherlands, it also licenses production to a number of other countries. That may be, but the Dutch and German languages are close enough that a name, or any word in general, might be similar, or even identical. But if the Heineken family moved to Holland years, or even a few centuries ago and became Dutch citizens, they and their company are, well, Dutch. In any case, the company is definitely now located in Holland.
