It depends on the business. If it is a technology business, patents will be most important because they protect inventions. If it is a music productions company, then copyright will be the key. If it is a retailer or service company, then trademarks will be important.
Depending on the type of business some forms of intellectual property are more valuable than others. However, since intellectual property is the kind of asset which actually increases in value over the time, it is an acceptable affirmation that it is one of the most important assets of a company.
Now it is important to consider too, that each form of intellectual property has its ups and downs. For instance, while trademark rights may last for ever, copyright exclusive rights not. Another example is, while protecting a trade secret allows to keep private information to maintain and competitive advantage in the market, patents, although being grate assets, require the applicant to disclose almost all related information.
For that reason the importance of intellectual property is directly related to the type of company, the type of business model, among other things.
