How do I transfer my car ownership? What is the process like? I’ve never done it.
The procedure is different from one state to another. Fill in the relevant forms, and write to the RTO informing them of the sale, in writing, either in person or by registered post acknowledgement due. In case of an accident or fines you will not be held liable.
I guess there are a couple of documents that need to be prepared for this purpose. You will need your vehicle title to start. Probably some type of bill of sale to show you are selling vehicle to another person. Present this at your local county tag office and should take care of it. Check first on what your local office requires to save time and get it right first time.
