Pause before reacting. Be present in the moment. Go slow. Be conscious of your long, deliberate breaths. If you feel overwhelmed, take a break to calm yourself. Staying in control of your emotions when under stress takes focus on staying in the moment, without letting your feelings take you on a joyride. Taking it a moment at a time helps a lot, you’re not alone, always know that.
This is something I used to struggle with and I think I have a much better response strategy now than before. Remaining calm is not a skill. It just requires spending more time thinking thank reacting. There are a few things that you can do to stay calm in difficult situations. First, try to take a deep breath and relax your body. You can also try to focus on the positive aspects of the situation. Finally, remember that things will eventually calm down and you will be able to handle the situation.
