A vet should be able to confirm either by ultrasound or palpitating her lower belly. Do not attempt to do this yourself – you could hurt her, her puppies or both. Be aware that a false pregnancy could be occurring, it will reproduce all signs of a real pregnancy, even leading to producing milk. Her nipples will continue to swell and grow quite large; if she has long fur around them, she will groom or lick if away. She may begin nesting at any point in the pregnancy, becoming more restless, and her appetite will increase dramatically. Her belly obviously will swell, possibly touching the ground in the later stages of pregnancy. It could be less obvious and just seem like she’s putting on weight. Some animals experience a form of morning sickness, some become demanding and attention seeking.
You need to talk to a vet because sometimes female dogs will develop signs of pregnancy after being in heat even though they are not pregnant. Often called phantom pregnancy. So in order to ensure that you are not taken by surprise if she indeed did mate and is pregnant you want to have a meet up with your vet.
