Fake clients, they’re on almost all freelance platforms. They’re always there, posing as real clients, the best you can do is to be able to tell them apart.

  1. We all know how to avoid a project with a ridiculously low budget or unreasonable requirements according to any standards, don’t we? Now, there are also projects that are obviously too good to be true. If someone wants to pay a few hundred dollars per page or per hour, but this client has no working record or this is his first project ever, then you should be extremely cautious. In those cases, the best thing you can do is to pass these kinds of projects.

  2. Most of the clients on Upwork are legit though, but to make things easier for you, try this. Look at the jobs that interest you and at the clients posting those jobs. The client profiles for each job will show if that client has any experience on Upwork or not. Have they spent money purchasing the services of other freelancers in the past? How much? What are other freelancers saying about them in the ratings? This will give you a pretty good idea of which jobs to apply to.
