I don’t know how to take compliments from people. I always feel the compliments are not genuine.

Be courteous, and say thank you. Most times, people mean compliments merely to be pleasant. If you feel self-conscious or embarassed, sort through your feelings as to why. Such introspection will help you to decide how you might want to respond. You may have several issues running through your mind. Do you feel similar about him? If so, would you feel safe with him? If not, you have every right to move on.
I used to suffer from this too, over time I’ve learnt to take compliments from people whether they mean it or not. At first, learn how to appreciate yourself, appreciate how you are, that way you will be able to take compliments from outsiders whether they are genuine or not. The truth is, a lot of compliments are not genuine, but what do you care? How you feel about yourself is what is important.
