According to online IQ tests I’m borderline genius. They give you inflated scores because they want to sell you the certificate and detailed results. Sometimes you have to give them an email address to send the results to, the email address is all that they are interested in getting. It’s amazing what you can get people to do if you tickle their ego. Think of professional IQ tests as measurements with random errors of from 5 to 10%. A random number generator will generate a number that matches whatever you want, if you have it respond enough times. A real IQ test is administered by a psychologist and can take over an hour. Online tests consist of silly questions, mostly, and are not as reliable.
I don’t think they’re particularly accurate. You can time them yourself or not time them – they’re not standardized and don’t really relate to anything. If you really want to know, you probably ought to take a professionally administered test. Some are frauds: giving the user a fake (mostly high) score in the hopes that the user will link to their result on social media, giving them free advertising. Even a good online IQ test has the issue that you’re free to take them over and over, destroying the validity of the test. I can tell you there are no online IQ tests whose scores would hold up or be taken seriously at all by professionals in the field. These are companies who are either after your money, or who have advertisers after someone’s money.
