College courses and degrees used to be available to most prisoners in the 70s and 80s. Then taxpayer got pissed that they were paying for their kids college education but the prisoners hit theirs for free. Kind of hard to argue with this sentiment. So, depending on where you are at and what level. Lower Level correctional facilities usually offer more education and programs.
GED classes are free in prison but their tests are mostly not free. For sure you can get GED classes. But as for college, maybe some prisons have some college classes at a reduced cost. Some have college degree programs too. But in general, yes you can get free education in prison. As far as earning a college degree in prison there are few prisons that have “free” college education.
