Hmmm…it only becomes an issue when he starts lagging now behind in his academics. If he is diligently working on his schoolwork and homes works, then there is nothing to be worried about. However, he still can not dedicate all of his free time to gaming. You are asking if you should be worried because as his parent it concerns you. The fact that you are even questioning whether it’s ok or not is already a red flag. The thing is, video games are addictive. He’s gotten to the point where he is using most of his free time playing video games. You need to set limits for him, it’s your responsibility. Hep him find something else to share his free time with so dedicating all his free time to video games doesn’t become a problem.
There is nothing wrong or to be worried about playing video games – even hours at a time – as long as concerns are addressed. However, your son should still have a life outside of games, he should perform well academically, socially, and physically. As far as the games themselves are concerned, monitoring to some extent is good.
Most games nowadays provide parents with tools such as chat restrictions to help protect children from language or even any interaction with strangers. Games, just as real life, can be dangerous. They can also be beneficial. They can teach your child a lot about pattern recognition, math, and other subjects. Advancing in games, you have to learn how to play – whether that means timing, coordination, reasoning skills, math. There really is no reason why your child should not play his video games so far you help him manage his time well and it doesn’t have negative effect on his academics.
