It’s really not uncommon to hear “men of God” say God spoke to them about what to preach on the altar. Are they really still in the business of hearing from God? With all the watered down preaching flying everywhere recently.
There is no doubt that pastors have decried people by claiming that God has spoken to them. But there are also a much greater number of cases where God has spoken to pastors or other leaders and they have acted on this word. If you feel that a pastor is being deceptive, then I would suggest that you listen closely in prayer for God’s voice to come to you or a vision or other means of revelation.
Well there are for sure many who may be outright lying, trying to deceive people for many reasons. There could be many who actually believe God has spoken to them, and there are people who in fact hear God speak. Let me elaborate. The bible clearly that God speaks to us in these current times by His Son and His Word. As we read the Word we can “hear” God as it is God Breathed. God also speaks to His own through His Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit comes to dwell within a person at conversion. He will never lead you to something that is contrary in any way to the Written Word of God. He also speaks through other believers, prayer, ect but that too will always be 100% confirmed by the Written Word. Always hold everything up to the Word to verify it’s truthfulness. As far as speaking audibly as we speak to each other, God does not currently seem to communicate that way for the time being. I certainly don’t know everything so please read and research for yourself. I would put to the test anyone and anything that claimed to have a message from God.
