Apes may not be able to speak like humans, but this probably doesn’t have anything to do with the animals’ intelligence. Apes don’t have and communicate language in the way that humans do, but they sure have distinctive ways of communicating among themselves. Apes use around seventy gesture types in the wild, and they produce gestures intentionally, aiming to affect the behaviour of the recipient. Chimpanzee gestures are used to request a variety of behaviour, from begging for food to requesting sex.
No, apes do not understand and are not capable of learning human language. Yes, humans may have evolved from apes and apes are said to have the level of intellectual capacity available for an average baby human who is t to learn the human language. Although, apes (chimpanzees and monkeys) have been said to exhibit their own form of communication which is sign language. Personally, I’ve experienced monkeys trying to communicate with the use of sign language, however it’s not exactly polished, just something they’ve learned to understand among themselves.
