Deciding who to come out to can be such an important decision. Think about the people you’re closest to and who would love and accept you no matter what — those people can help support you as you come out to others in your life. If you live with or depend upon your parents for financial support, and you think that coming out could get you kicked out of the house or put you in an unsafe situation, you might consider waiting to tell them until you’re more independent. You don’t have to tell everyone at the same time. It’s a process, and it doesn’t need to happen all at once. While you might be super excited to share your sexual orientation or gender identity with the world, sometimes it’s best to deal with each situation and relationship separately and thoughtfully, as you really do not know and cannot predict what someone’s reaction would be.
When you’re surrounded by supportive people is a good time to come out of the closet. Whenever you feel comfortable and can handle the reactions from friends and family. Some people from liberal household may find it easier to come out. Some from the conservative household find it harder to come out without having to go through the consequences. I never officially announced my queerness to family; over time every one deduced the truth without a flaming production. I figured I never asked my parents what they did in the bedroom, why should they ask about my love life?
