Women are often encouraged to go for a pap smear test the moment they become sexually active, irrespective of their age. But since virgins are not active sexually, does that mean they’re exempted?

If I were you, I’d get one. Always best to take care of yourself and do preventative checks. It’s not bad, it’s over and done with very quickly. If anything, a pap smear at this point will familiarize you with your body and the process. It’s only a benefit to your health, no downside to getting it done. Cervical cancer doesn’t care if you are sexually active or not, you may still possibly develop cervical cancer from the HPV virus without sexual intercourse, the risk is low. Pap smears are not fun but finding a doctor you are comfortable with makes a huge difference, but do well to consult and get the medical advice from a medical personnel before going ahead with the test.

You should get one regardless, lack of sexual activities does not mean one cannot get cervical cancer. There might be genetic factors involved. I had one before I was sexually active. It was a new feeling and pretty uncomfortable, but if you have a decent doctor, they will use the right size speculum, lube, etc, whatever you need to make it easier. No one loves their paps getting smeared, but if you can focus on doing reverse kegels, the process is a little bit easier. Best thing is not to tense up, prepare yourself for the test mentally, it is going to be uncomfortable than a blood test.
