Taking medications on an empty stomach or failing to not eat even just a little before or after can or will make you sick to your stomach or give you heartburn. If anything, eat a piece of toast. Some medications are really so strong; like antibiotics. So when medicine tells you to take it with a meal it’s actually trying to give you good advice.
The most common reason why they say you shouldn’t take medications without food is because they irritate the lining of the stomach, which can contribute to symptoms such as heartburn, belching, burning sensation in the stomach, nausea and vomiting. I advise people to take supplements with food as well because the inactive ingredients can be irritating, and because supplemental nutrients are more beneficial when absorbed along with other nutrients in food.
