Some people believe the dermal punch hurts a lot more than the needle. This is untrue. The dermal punch is so sharp, it is hardly painful, and most people prefer it Page 2 over the needle. After the pocket is created, the microdermal anchor is inserted, using forceps specifically designed for the insertion procedure.
Pain is possible with all piercings. Generally speaking, the fleshier the area, the less the piercing will hurt. Some people may find that the skin in this area is on the thinner side, while others find that their sternum is covered by a thick layer of skin. It is just like any other piercing.
